Catch up Day

The Gallery Walk assignment has been graded. A handful of people did not answer all this questions, or did not offer constructive feedback. Otherwise, everyone did a nice job on this assignment. We will continue to do this throughout the term. Be sure that you are using the feedback to improve your design.

Scan & Trace is graded. Many people did not hand in this assignment. With that in mind we will be looking back at the designs and learning about guidelines. The guideline are a great way to better organize you designs. Everyone has an opportunity to use them to improve their tracings, turn them in for a final time.

Font Manipulation is also graded. Several people did not complete all the requested tasks. Also several people did not turn this assignment in at all.

This is a great time to check your grades, ask questions and make improvements.

Coming up:
-Spot Color
-3 Color Pantone

Master Path

Saving Issues
The trace and scan needs to be finished up. The final document must include the template and the tracing.
Today is a good day to get this finished.

The MASTER PATH...

Task #1-Use Illustrator to create a typographic logo for yourself.  This is for a design business for yourself.
-It should reflect who you or your business are...edgy, trendy, sweet, bold, Gothic, etc.
-It can be as simple as your initials with the word Design or more complex like a full company name.
-It should be eye catching.
-It should work well large or small.

Task #2-Use your sketches, if you have designs that you like.  You can also redesign at this point if you have new ideas after trying some of the tools in Illustrator. Use google to find inspiration, if you are feeling stuck. Be inspired, but do not copy.

Task #3-Make you design fill the page either wide, tall or both.

Task #4-Use only black for your letters.

Sketching Final Day

This is the last day to work on the sketches. They are due at the end of the hour.
Work on Ch.10 after you have completed your sketches. You will be given extended time on the chapter reading.

Thursday, September 8, 2016

Designing a Typographic Logo:

-Think back to what we talked about this week regarding brainstorming.
-Think about what the chapter reading described as methods of recording brainstormed ideas.

-Finally, your logo should have 3 characteristics:
1. Easily Recognized
2. Visual Meaning
3. Memorable

The sketches will be due by the end of class Friday.  You will have time in class today to work. We are going. Learn how to transfer and collage as an alternative to sketching.

Be sure to create at least 5 transfers and 5 collages in your sketch collection.  Place a star by the transferred sketches. They can be difficult to distinguish for pencil sketches.

Check out dafont.com and see if you can find inspiration for an original font of your own.

Due Friday:

Chapter 10 Guided Reading
50 logo sketches

A winner was chosen...

Thank you and your students for the designs! The email came at a perfect timing because we had a meeting yesterday afternoon and were able to vote.  Our top favorites were Madisyn Podoll, Malcolm Holliman, Ryann Swanson and McCartney. The committee wanted to go with a design that was unique and not similar to others we have had in the past and chose McCartney as this year’s t-shirt design!!
The committee was so pleased with your student’s talent and hope you would be willing to help design again next year.

Programs and Layout

Your agenda design is a tool that students can with them throughout the day.  What would be cool or interesting to you and your classmates?
Use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or both.
Dimensions: 5” wide & 8” tall
Use guidelines to create a ¼” extra space.  The area within the guideline will fit the cover.  The purpose of the “bleed area” is to accommodate the rounded corners of the agenda cover.
This is a full color design.
It should have layers to create depth.  Find texture and paint brushes online to create visual interest.

Design dimensions are as follows:
·         300 dot resolution (155 lines)

·         5” x 8” (pull in margins)
